Education, participation & democracy
Why Digital Education Matters
According to the World Bank, education is a powerful driver of development and one of the most vital instruments for reducing poverty and improving health, gender equality, peace, and stability.
Education can decisively contribute to establishing more participation as a critical element of democracy. Children are to be heard in matters that concern them. So, in developing a strategy to protect them from harassment and damage through internet use, kids have to not only be consulted but actively involved in the design of a public policy for Better Internet for Kids. The Better Internet for Kids Policy Map (BIK), published in November 2020, describes how the participating EU countries implemented the strategies into their national plans. The research findings showed that only eight countries (31%) reported that kids could participate. Almost two-thirds (69%) stated they have no arrangements for the active participation of children in designing public policies related to BIK.
